Over the years, legacies have helped to fund many different projects at Canterbury Cathedral.
A bequest from a supporter from Canterbury enabled us to replace the chairs in the Cathedral in 2007. This gift which cost £270,000 revolutionised the way we work in the Cathedral, making it much easier to cope with the many functions that are held here each year. The chairs also enhance the look of the Cathedral, blending in well with the stone work.

In 2007, The Friends of Canterbury Cathedral gave £500,000 to the Cathedral Appeal enabling valuable repairs and restoration to continue. This donation was possible as a result of Legacy income.

Gifts received as a result of a Special Appeal by the Dean and a legacy from a supporter from Wye enabled us to donate £230,000 in 2009 towards necessary work on the Howley Harrison Library. Our gift was match funded by the Wolfson Foundation and English Heritage. In partnership, we were able to achieve this enormous project.
Pam Doyle, Executive Secretary and Nic Lewis,
Treasurer, presented the cheque for £230,000 on behalf
of The Friends of Canterbury Cathedral for work on the
Howley-Harrison Library to the Dean at the Annual General
Meeting on Friends' Day on June 28th 2009.
