A FRIENDLY TALK
Jane Austen in Kent with Dr Susan Civale
Thursday 22 May, 10:30-11:30 in the Clagett Auditorium Thursday 22 May
2025 is the 250th anniversary of the birth of Jane Austen.
The author of some of the best-known novels in English literature, Austen had many connections to Kent. It was the birthplace of her father and many of her relatives are remembered in the churchyard at Horsmonden.
Two of her brothers had impressive estates in the county: Godmersham and Goodnestone Parks. Austen often spent time living with her brothers in Kent and is known to have visited our Cathedral and Canterbury.
In her illustrated talk, Dr Susan Civale, Reader in Romanticism at Canterbury Christ Church University, will reveal more about the famous Miss Austen.
Tickets: £10 Friends of Canterbury Cathedral, £15 non-members. Includes tea and coffee.
This event is supported by The Friends of Canterbury Cathedral (Registered Charity No 256575).
