Tickets can be booked online or are available to buy on the day at our Visitor Centre.

It is always free to attend a service of worship or come into the Cathedral to pray.

Opening Times

Monday to Saturday 09.00 - 17.00 (last admission at 16.00)

Sunday 11.30* - 17.00 (last admission at 16.00)
*Between 11.30-12.30, access is available to the Cathedral grounds and Shop only. The Cathedral church opens at 12.30.

Opening times are subject to change. Occasionally, areas of the Cathedral may be closed to visiting, due to services, special events or for conservation work to be carried out.

To avoid disappointment, please check opening times and upcoming closures before visiting.

You may be eligible for a Cathedral Pass if you:

  • work in the old city of Canterbury
  • live within 4 miles of Bell Harry tower, including within The Precincts
  • are a member of the Cathedral Congregation
  • are immediate family of a Cathedral staff member
  • are a member of any church in the diocese (on the parish electoral roll or equivalent)

Our Cathedral Pass cannot be used in conjunction with other promotions or offers.

The Cathedral plays an active role in the community and it, or parts of it, are at times closed for general visiting due to services, special events or for conservation work to be carried out. Therefore, please always check our opening times and closures before visiting.

The Cathedral and Precincts are huge so, even when parts of the Cathedral are closed for visiting, there will be plenty for you to explore.

Tuesday 1st - The Eastern Crypt 

The Eastern Crypt will be closed until 13:00 for a service today. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

 

Thursday 3rd- The Crypt

The Crypt will be closed until 13:00 today for a funeral service. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre. 

 

Saturday 5th - The Crypt

The Crypt will be closed until 13:00 for the Mother's Union Festal Service. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

 

Thursday 10th - The Cathedral

There will be organ tuning today, which does not pose a closure but this can be audibly disruptive. Ear defenders are available to borrow from our Visitor Centre if this will help with your visit to the Cathedral. 

 

Saturday 12th - The Eastern Crypt

The Eastern Crypt will be closed all day today for the Lenten Quiet Day. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre. 

 

Thursday 17th - The Nave, Martyrdom, South Transept & The Chapter House

The Nave, Martyrdom, South Transept and the Chapter House will be closed until 13:00 today for the Chrism Service. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

 

Friday 18th - The Nave, Martyrdom, and South Transept

The Nave, Martyrdom, and South Transept will be closed until 11:00 today for a service. From 11:00, the Nave will have a partial closure but visitors will still be able to enter the Nave. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

 

Saturday 19th - The Central Quire

The Central Quire will be closed except for flat level access today. The Quire itself can still be viewed from the Trinity Chapel. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

 

Saturday 26th - The Eastern Crypt

The Eastern Crypt will be closed for a service from 12:30-14:30 today. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

 

Sunday 27th - The Nave, Martyrdom, and South Transept

The Nave, Martyrdom, and South Transept will be closed all day today for a service. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

 

Tuesday 29th - The Nave, Martyrdom, and South Transept

The Nave, Martyrdom, and South Transept will be closed from 13:00 today for a service. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

Thursday 1st - The Crypt

The Crypt will be closed until late afternoon (to be confirmed) today for a funeral service. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre. 

 

Friday 2nd - The Crypt 

The Crypt will be closed from 11:00 today for a wedding. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre. 

 

Saturday 3rd - The Eastern Crypt

The Eastern Crypt will be closed today. The rest of the Cathedral will remain open for visiting and tickets can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre. 

 

Wednesday 7th - The Nave, Martyrdom, and Southwest Transept

The Nave, Martyrdom, and Southwest Transept will be closed from 12:30, with last admission 12:00 today for a private service. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre. 

 

Thursday 8th - The Chapter House

The Chapter House may be closed for some of today. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre. 

 

Saturday 10th - The Chapter House & Central Quire

The Chapter House and Central Quire will be closed all day today. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.   

 

Tuesday 13th - The Water Tower 

The Water Tower corridor and exhibition will be closed for maintenance today. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre. 

 

Tuesday 20th - The Nave, Martyrdom, Southwest Transept, and the Chapter House 

The Nave, Martyrdom, Southwest Transept and Chapter House will be closed from 12:00 today for graduations The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre. 

 

Saturday 31st - The Crypt and the Chapter House 

The Eastern Crypt and The Chapter House will be closed until 12:00 today. Then, from 12:30 the Crypt will be fully closed for a wedding. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.
