Tudors and Stuarts History Weekend

Tours of the Cathedral Library are being offered as part of the weekend of events organised by Canterbury Christ Church University to celebrate Tudor and Stuart history in Canterbury.

During the Easter Holidays, the Schools department are running a fun Easter Trail for children.

Lent Lunches

Come along to the Cathedral Lodge between 12.00hrs and and 13.45hrs for good food, good company and a donation to charity makes it for a good cause too.

Easter dinners at The Lodge

Event Date Dinner starts at 18.15
Prior to the Archbishop’s Lectures and the Maundy Thursday service at 19:30, the Cathedral Lodge are offering a two-course hot meal with tea/coffee each day. Dinner starts at 18.15 and must be booked in advance (£12.95 per person per night or £50 for all four nights).

Archbishop’s Holy Week lecture

Requiem

The Cathedral Choir sing Requiem by Maurice Duruflé. There is no charge to listen to this performance.

Organ Recital

Event Date 22nd April 19:30 - 21:30
Organ Recital by James O’Donnell, Organist and Master of the Choristers of Westminster Abbey. Internationally recognised as a conductor and organ recitalist, he has given concerts all over the world, including the United States, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and throughout Europe.

Canterbury Choral Society Concert.

Event Date 29th April 19:30 - 22:00
Canterbury Choral Society brings together two of Bach’s best loved choral works, Magnificat and Cantata No. 11, for its spring concert. The society is joined by the London Handel Orchestra who play Bach’s famous Suite in D, with its Air on a G string as one of the central movements.

Informal Recital

Informal Recital by the Canterbury Singers. The chamber choir was founded in 1953 under the patronage of the composer Edmund Rubbra and is now under the musical directorship of Cathedral Second Assistant Organist Adrian Bawtree.

Open Gardens Weekend

Event Date 27th May - 28th May
As part of the National Garden Scheme, Open Gardens celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.  This two day event unlocks the Cathedral’s private gardens within the grounds and raises money for charity. It is a must for anyone who loves and appreciates the skill and art of gardening.

Organ Recital

Event Date 27th May 19:30 - 21:30
Organ Recital by Dr David Newsholme who is the Director of the Girls’ Choir and Assistant Organist at Canterbury Cathedral. David has previously held posts as a singer, organist and teacher at Worcester and Salisbury Cathedrals and Winchester College. He studied at New College, Oxford, York University and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

National Volunteers’ Week

For National Volunteers’ Week, come and meet some of the many volunteers that give up their time at Canterbury Cathedral. Hear about some of the exciting projects they’ve been working on, from research in the Archives and Library and collections care, to delivering creative projects and activities with the local community.

Girls’ Choir Summer Concert

The Girls’ Choir of Canterbury Cathedral presents its annual concert of music for a summer’s evening. The performance will take place in the beautiful and intimate surroundings of the Cathedral’s Crypt. The programme will include a mixture of sacred and secular music.

Handel’s Messiah

The Girls and Men of Canterbury Cathedral Choir give their debut performance of Handel’s famous oratorio, Messiah. They will be joined by critically-acclaimed period instrument orchestra The Harmonious Society of Tickle-Fiddle Gentlemen and internationally-renowned soloists for the performance in the Cathedral’s Nave.
