Rising Tide Craft Beer Festival

Venue: Canterbury Cathedral Lodge, Canterbury, Kent CT1 2EH

Celebrating craft beer at its best, this brand-new festival hosted by Time & Tide Brewing takes place in Canterbury Cathedral Lodge, situated within the stunning grounds of Canterbury Cathedral.

We’re shining a spotlight on some of the country’s most exciting breweries, showcasing the best that independent craft beer has to offer. A selection of beers ranging from hoppy IPAs to sours and imperial stouts will be available, with some wild fermentation thrown in for good measure.

Delicious street food will be available (with a focus on quality and local produce), and you can enjoy music in the Lodge Auditorium, or chill out in the quieter Kentish Barn.

Your ticket price of £15 will include:

  • Entry to your chosen festival session within Canterbury Cathedral Lodge
  • Access to an array of carefully curated beer from some of the UK’s best producers, plus a selection of wine, cider and soft drinks
  • DJ’s and street-food (pay as you go)
  • Meet the brewers: find out who’s behind some of the country’s best beers – we’ll have representatives from different breweries pouring over 50 different beers
  • Limited release Rising Tide glassware to use and keep
  • Free visitor entry to the Cathedral and grounds during normal sightseeing hours (valid for that day only). Discover the Cathedral’s fascinating 1,400-year history, including the Benedictine monks’ own brewing tradition.
Last visitor entry to the Cathedral is 4pm – see opening times. Strictly no food or drink to be taken outside of the Lodge.

Tickets are limited to 200 people per session. There are three sessions in total.

Rising Tide FAQs

This brand-new festival takes place inside Canterbury Cathedral Lodge, the Cathedral’s specialist events space within the historic Precincts, overlooking the Cathedral. Entry is via the Visitor Centre, through the grounds and into the Cathedral Lodge. With full use of the venue, you can expect a room full of breweries pouring carefully curated beer, a separate chill out space with seating and access to street food, and plenty of space to sit, stand, or dance if you wish!

What are the session times?

  • Friday 8th November Evening Session: 5.30pm - 10:30pm
  • Saturday 9th November:
    • Day Session: 11.30am – 4.30pm
    • Evening Session: 5.30pm – 10.30pm

Last orders will be called 30 minutes before the end of each session.

FAQs continued

How do I get to the festival?

The Cathedral Lodge is easily accessible from the main public transport routes such as Canterbury East and Canterbury West train stations, and Canterbury Bus Station. Use postcode CT1 2EH in Google Maps.

Is there parking at the venue?

There is no parking at the venue. You can choose to use one of Canterbury’s many nearby public car parks, take public transport, or walk to the venue.

If you have mobility issues and need to discuss these, please contact Canterbury Cathedral Lodge directly (+ 44 (0)1227 865350 or [email protected]). Parking is available for Blue Badge holders, subject to limited availability and prior arrangement.

How do I enter the festival when I get to Canterbury?

Head towards the entrance for Canterbury Cathedral in the Buttermarket, and look for the Visitor Centre entrance. Please have your ticket ready once you arrive at the festival. You are welcome to print your ticket out or have it on your smartphone.

What is there to do at the festival?

Rising Tide is a craft beer festival so as well as plenty of beer to taste, there’ll be music and food available too. Each brewery will be pouring a selection of beers ranging from hoppy IPAs to sours and imperial stouts, with some wild fermentation thrown in for good measure. During each of the 3 sessions, you will be able to choose what you want, and pay for it as you go using a simple voucher system. These can be purchased in advance and collected when you arrive, or you can purchase on the day.

There will be plenty of music playing in the ‘beer hall’ (the Lodge Auditorium) with a quieter zone upstairs in the Kentish Barn where you can purchase street food (with a focus on quality and local produce) and chill out. So that’s beer, music, delicious food – all under one roof!

You can also enjoy free visitor entry to the Cathedral and grounds during normal sightseeing hours (valid for that day only). Discover the Cathedral’s fascinating 1,400-year history, including the Benedictine monks’ own brewing tradition - brewing beer was very much part of monastic life and historically would have been common within the Precincts. Perhaps less well-known is that St Thomas Becket was also Patron Saint of the Worshipful Company of Brewers - the Company’s original arms incorporated Becket’s own coat of arms – and that his father was a malt merchant known as Gilbert the Brewer.

Is it just beer?

As well as the wide range of kegged beers, there will be a small bar offering wine, spirits, and soft drinks. It is predominantly a beer festival, but there will be alternatives, and of course free water.

How do I buy beer at the festival?

The festival will operate a voucher system for you to use to purchase beer. You can buy vouchers when you book your tickets, and then collect them when you arrive, or you can buy them when you arrive. Contactless payments are preferred.

Beers will be sold in 1/2 pints and 1/3 pints. Glass-rinsing facilities will be available. Any unused vouchers will not be refunded, but we will be happy to sell the vouchers in smaller (lower) amounts to enable you to minimise any risk of wastage.

How much will the drinks cost?

We want people to come along and drink some of the country’s best beer. We want to keep our costs as low as we can to make it accessible, whilst balancing the actual costs incurred in arranging an event such as this. Prices will start from the equivalent of £1.80 per third (£5.40 per pint).

Accessibility: I have mobility issues. Is it wheelchair friendly?

The downstairs area is accessible by wheelchair, and there is an assisted lift to gain entry to the food area. There is an accessible toilet on the ground floor.

Assistance Dogs are welcome in the Cathedral Lodge.

Parking is available for Blue Badge holders, subject to limited availability and prior arrangement.

Please contact Canterbury Cathedral Lodge directly on + 44 (0)1227 865350 or [email protected] if you have any specific requirements.

Where can I stay?

Canterbury is popular, so we advise you to book any accommodation as soon as you book your tickets. Here is a selection of nearby hotels and B&Bs, and there is of course AirBnB.

There are many other options available.

Will this event help to support Canterbury Cathedral?

Canterbury Cathedral Lodge is a commercial subsidiary of Canterbury Cathedral, and its profits are used to help meet the Cathedral’s substantial running costs of nearly £30,000 per day.
