Join us in the Viewing Gallery, in the Cathedral Visitor Centre and discover objects that bring to life stories from the history of Canterbury and the Cathedral, and their royal connections.
Marvel at the wonderful William Burges Crozier (the staff carried by a bishop), which features St George - patron saint of England - and the Dragon.
See the ancient ‘burghmote horn’ of the City of Canterbury, which is still blown on special occasions; and the magnificent ceremonial sword, dating from 1608.
This exhibition features striking and rarely seen items dating from the medieval period onwards. Admire their fine craftsmanship and find out how they were used in celebrations and ceremonies.
This family-friendly exhibition is available to view every day, during visiting hours.

Visit the fascinating new exhibition in our Viewing Gallery, which delves into the lives of the medieval monks of Canterbury Cathedral.
Told through their own words, drawings and objects, discover what they did with their day, what they cared about, and why they needed sign language for “pass the soap”!
This family-friendly exhibition is available to view every day, during visiting hours.
You do not need a Cathedral Admission Ticket, Cathedral Pass or Friends' Card to view the exhibition.

Discover objects that bring to life stories from the history of Canterbury and the Cathedral, and their royal connections.
The exhibition includes striking and rarely seen items dating from the medieval period onwards. Admire their fine craftsmanship and find out how they were used in celebrations and ceremonies. Artwork created by local children and inspired by the objects on display will also be showcased in the Gallery.

Making History: Church, State and Conflict
Western Crypt
Explore up-close a unique collection of artefacts that tell the complex, and often violent, story of Church-State relations.
Amazing objects on display include the battle shield of Edward The Black Prince, a charter of King Henry II issued five years after the murder of Thomas Becket, and an 11th-Century document with the wax seal of William the Conqueror.
This exhibition is free to view with a Cathedral Admission Ticket, Cathedral Pass or Friends' Card. Children aged 17 and under go free (T&Cs apply).

Chalices, Flagons and Patens
Water Tower Corridor
Church practice through the centuries has been full of variety, and this can be seen in the objects used in worship, from simple communion cups to decorated chalices.
This exhibition is free to view with a Cathedral Admission Ticket, Cathedral Pass or Friends' Card. Children aged 17 and under go free (T&Cs apply).

Water Tower
In this exhibition in the Cathedral's newly-restored Water Tower, discover what day-to-day life was like for Canterbury's monks

moon landing: an immersive art installation
JUNE 2025
This June, we will be hosting the breathtaking art installation moon landing; created by British textile artist and designer of woven textiles, Margo Selby, in collaboration with composer, Helen Caddick.
An immersive artwork comprising a 16-metre hand-woven textile by Margo Selby, and a newly-composed musical piece scored for strings by Helen Caddick.
It is a celebration of the mathematical and technical possibilities of weaving and the crossovers of pattern, tone and rhythm found in both music and woven textiles.
